How to Make Beeswax Candles at Home: A Beginner's Guide with Azlok's Kit

The Azlok Beeswax Candle Making Kit lets you pour your first candle at home in under an hour, without buying supplies separately. It packs white beeswax, two candle jars, five fragrance oils, pigment colours, wicks and all the small tools you need into one box priced at ₹999 (Pack of 1). If you have wanted to try candle making but did not know where to begin, this is a straightforward starting point.

What's inside the kit

Everything here is chosen so a first-timer can finish a batch in one sitting. The kit includes:

  • 250 gm white beeswax — the fuel and body of your candle
  • 2 candle jars (100 gm each) — ready to pour into
  • 1 box of pigment colours — to tint your wax
  • 5 fragrance oils (15 ml each) — Lavender, Jasmine, Orchid, Lemon and Oceanic
  • 1 beaker and 1 spatula for melting and mixing
  • 1 wooden spoon, 2 wooden wick holders and 5 pre-waxed wicks
  • 1 pair of hand gloves, 4 decoration tags and 4 units of jute thread for finishing

Why beeswax

Beeswax is a natural wax that burns cleanly and holds shape well. It has a gentle golden-to-white tone and a mild, honey-like character that many people prefer over paraffin. It also tends to burn a little slower, so your candles last. For beginners, it is forgiving to work with and pairs nicely with the fragrance oils supplied in the kit.

How to make your first candle

  1. Prepare the jar. Fix a pre-waxed wick to the centre of the jar base (a small dab of melted wax helps it stick), then rest the wooden wick holder across the rim to keep the wick upright and centred.
  2. Melt the wax. Add beeswax to the beaker and melt gently using a double-boiler method — place the beaker in a pot of hot water rather than on direct flame. Stir with the wooden spoon or spatula until fully liquid.
  3. Add colour. Mix in a small amount of pigment from the box and stir until even. Start with very little; you can always add more.
  4. Add fragrance. Once the wax has cooled slightly (but is still liquid), stir in a few drops of your chosen fragrance oil. Adding it too hot can weaken the scent.
  5. Pour and set. Pour slowly into the jar, keep the wick centred, and leave it undisturbed to cool at room temperature. Trim the wick to about 5–6 mm before the first burn.
  6. Decorate. Tie a decoration tag with jute thread around the jar for a gifting touch.

Tips for better candles

  • Let candles cure for 24–48 hours before lighting for a stronger scent throw.
  • Pour at a steady temperature to avoid sinkholes or a cracked top.
  • Combine fragrances thoughtfully — Lavender with a hint of Lemon, or Jasmine on its own, works well.
  • Always trim the wick before each burn to reduce soot and mushrooming.

Safety notes

Melted wax is hot, so wear the gloves provided and keep children and pets away from your workspace. Never melt wax directly on an open flame — use the double-boiler method and stay nearby. Work in a ventilated area when handling fragrance oils, and avoid skin or eye contact with the concentrated oils and pigments. These fragrance oils are for candle use, not for eating or applying to skin. When burning the finished candle, place it on a heat-safe surface away from curtains and drafts, and never leave a lit candle unattended.

Buying and storage

The kit is made in India and available from Azlok as a single pack (Today Deal) or in packs of 2, 5, 10 and 50 — the larger packs suit hobby groups, workshops or small businesses making candles to sell. Store leftover wax, oils and pigments in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with lids tightly closed so the fragrances do not fade. Keep finished candles out of heat to prevent softening.

FAQ

Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. It contains the wax, jars, wicks, tools and fragrances a first-timer needs, so you can make candles without sourcing items separately.

How many candles can I make with one kit?

The kit includes 250 gm of beeswax and two 100 gm jars, so you can comfortably fill both jars, with room to adjust based on how full you pour.

Can I mix the fragrance oils together?

Yes, you can blend the Lavender, Jasmine, Orchid, Lemon and Oceanic oils to create your own scents. Add them in small amounts and test as you go.

Do I need any extra equipment?

Just a pot of hot water for the double-boiler melting method and a heat source. The beaker, spatula, spoon, gloves and wick holders are already included.
