How to Make Your First Candle with the Azlok Paraffin Wax Kit

The Azlok Paraffin Wax Candle Making Kit gives you everything needed to pour your first scented candle at home: 250 gm of semi paraffin wax, two 100 gm jars, five fragrance oils, pigment colours, wicks, a beaker and tools. In short, you melt the wax, add colour and fragrance, set the wick, pour, and let it cure. It is far simpler than most people expect, and one kit is enough to learn the whole process.

What comes in the kit

Priced at ₹949 for a single pack (with larger packs of 2, 5, 10 and 50 for gifting or small businesses), the kit is designed so you don't have to hunt for supplies separately. Inside you get:

  • Semi paraffin wax — 250 gm
  • Candle jars — 2 units of 100 gm each
  • Fragrance oils — Lavender, Jasmine, Orchid, Lemon and Oceanic, 15 ml each
  • Pigment colour box — 1 box
  • Pre-waxed wicks — 5, plus 2 wooden wick holders
  • Tools — a beaker, spatula, wooden spoon and a pair of hand gloves
  • Finishing touches — 4 decoration tags and 4 jute threads

How to make a candle, step by step

  1. Prepare the jar. Wipe the jar clean and dry. Fix a pre-waxed wick to the centre of the base (a dab of melted wax helps it stick) and rest the wick straight using the wooden wick holder across the rim.
  2. Melt the wax. Break the paraffin wax into the beaker and melt it gently using a double boiler — place the beaker in a pan of hot water on low heat. Avoid direct flame. Stir with the wooden spoon until fully liquid.
  3. Add colour. Mix in a small amount of pigment from the colour box. Start tiny; you can always add more for a deeper shade.
  4. Add fragrance. Once the wax is off the heat and slightly cooled, stir in your chosen oil. Roughly 15 ml scents one small batch well. Pick one scent per jar so the aroma stays clean.
  5. Pour and set. Pour slowly into the jar, keeping the wick centred. Let it cool undisturbed at room temperature.
  6. Trim and decorate. Once fully hardened, trim the wick to about 5–6 mm. Tie a jute thread and add a decoration tag for a finished look.

Tips for a better burn

  • Pour at the right temperature — too hot and the surface may crack or sink, too cool and it won't level out smoothly.
  • Let candles cure for 24–48 hours before lighting for a stronger scent throw.
  • Always trim the wick before each burn to reduce soot and mushrooming.
  • Burn the candle long enough on the first light so the melt pool reaches the jar's edge; this prevents tunnelling.

Safety notes

Molten wax gets very hot, so wear the gloves provided and keep the melting station away from children and pets. Never leave heating wax unattended, and don't overheat paraffin. Work in a ventilated area when handling fragrance oils, and keep them away from open flames while pouring. Fragrance oils are for candle use only — do not apply to skin or ingest. When burning the finished candle, place it on a heat-safe surface, away from curtains and drafts, and never leave a lit candle unattended.

Buying and storage

The single-pack Today Deal is ideal if you are trying candle making for the first time. If you plan to gift a batch or test a small home business, the larger packs work out more convenient. Store leftover wax and oils in a cool, dry place, tightly closed and away from direct sunlight. Kept properly, the fragrance oils and pigments last well between sessions. Azlok bundles these supplies together so beginners can start without sourcing each item on its own.

FAQ

Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. It includes the wax, jars, wicks, tools and fragrances in one box, so you can learn the full process from melting to pouring without buying anything extra.

How many candles can I make with one kit?

The 250 gm of wax comfortably fills the two 100 gm jars provided, with a small margin. You can reuse the jars and buy more wax to make additional candles.

What is the difference between paraffin and soy wax?

Paraffin wax is a widely used candle wax that holds fragrance well and gives a strong scent throw. Soy wax is plant-based and burns slower. This kit uses semi paraffin wax, which is beginner-friendly and easy to work with.

Can I mix the fragrance oils together?

You can, but for your first few candles it is easier to use one scent per jar. Once you understand how each oil behaves, you can experiment with light blends.

How long should I wait before lighting the candle?

Let the candle set fully, then cure it for about 24 to 48 hours. This helps the wax firm up and the fragrance develop before the first burn.
