Perfume Base (Fixative): How to Make Your Fragrances Last Longer

A perfume base fixative is a clear, odourless liquid carrier that you blend with fragrance oils to help a scent last longer, project better and stay stable over time. In simple terms, it slows down how quickly the aroma molecules evaporate off your skin, so the perfume holds its character instead of fading within minutes.

Azlok's Perfume Base (Fixative) is made in India from a blend of DPG (dipropylene glycol), benzyl benzoate, IPM (isopropyl myristate), a stabiliser and triethyl citrate. It is transparent, liquid and has no smell of its own, which means it supports your fragrance without changing it.

What a fixative actually does

Every perfume is built from top, middle and base notes. The top notes are the lightest and disappear first; the heavier base notes last longest. A fixative acts as the glue that holds these layers together and keeps the volatile parts from flashing off too fast. The result is a more even, longer-lasting scent.

  • Improves longevity — the fragrance stays noticeable for hours rather than minutes.
  • Better projection — the scent throws more evenly around you.
  • Clarity and stability — helps the blend stay clear and balanced over its shelf life.

Where you can use it

This base is versatile enough for most alcohol-based and oil-based scented products, including:

  • Luxury perfumes for men, women and unisex blends
  • Body mists and body sprays
  • Deodorants and colognes
  • Other scented cosmetic formulations

  1. Decide your fragrance concentration. A body mist usually uses around 3–8% fragrance oil, an eau de toilette 8–15%, and a stronger perfume 15–25%.
  2. Blend your fragrance oil into the perfume base first, so it dissolves evenly.
  3. If you are making an alcohol-based spray, add perfumer's alcohol as the bulk of the formula and use the fixative base as part of the carrier.
  4. Mix thoroughly, then let the blend rest or
