Bleaching powder is a white or off-white chlorine compound based on calcium hypochlorite, sold in India for bleaching, cleaning drains, floors and toilets, and for chlorinating water tanks and pools. It releases chlorine when mixed with water, so it smells strong and must be kept dry, sealed and away from acids.
