Hair Serum Base: The Ready-to-Use Foundation for Custom Hair Serums

Azlok's Hair Serum Base (Ready to Use) is a pre-made, water-based liquid formulation that lets you create your own hair serum simply by adding oils, botanical extracts, vitamins or fragrance. It arrives finished and stable, so you skip the tricky emulsifying and preservative work and go straight to customising. A 100 Gm pack starts at ₹299, with larger sizes up to 25 KG for small businesses.

What is a hair serum base?

A serum base is the neutral "carrier" that gives your finished product its texture, spread and shelf stability. This one is transparent, alcohol-free and fragrance-free, built around aqua, sorbitol and glycerine for slip and moisture, with sweet almond oil and tocopherol (vitamin E) for conditioning. It already contains a preservative system (phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate), so a well-made batch stays usable for up to 12 months.

What makes it interesting for hobbyists and brands is the list of established hair actives blended in — including ANAGAIN (pea sprout extract), Procapil, Redensyl and Bicapil style complexes. In practical terms, that means much of the formulation science is done for you; your job is to personalise the finish, scent and any extra actives.

What you can make with it

  • Leave-in smoothing serum for frizz control and shine.
  • Lightweight hair oil-serum by blending in a small amount of argan, jojoba or almond oil.
  • Fragranced styling serum using cosmetic-grade fragrance or a low dose of essential oil.
  • Targeted scalp-and-strength serums by adding your chosen actives or vitamins.

The base is marketed for four everyday benefits: enhancing shine, reducing frizz, smoothing texture and supporting stronger-feeling hair.

How to use and customise it

  1. Start with clean equipment. Sanitise your bottles, beakers and stirrers with isopropyl alcohol to protect the preservative system.
  2. Weigh your base. Work by weight for repeatable results — for example 95–98 grams of base per 100 gram batch.
  3. Add your extras slowly. Blend in oils, water-soluble extracts, vitamins or fragrance a little at a time, stirring well. Keep total additions modest (typically under 3–5%) so you don't destabilise the formula.
  4. Check that it stays clear and smooth. If it separates or turns cloudy, you have likely added too much oil or an incompatible ingredient.
  5. Bottle and label with the date and contents.

To use the finished serum, take a few drops, warm between your palms and smooth over damp or dry mid-lengths and ends. Avoid overloading the roots.

Tips and safety notes

  • Patch-test first. Apply a small amount to your inner arm and wait 24 hours before regular use, especially after adding actives or essential oils.
  • Go light on essential oils. For hair-on-skin contact, keep essential oils well diluted — usually well under 1%.
  • For external use only. Do not ingest, and keep away from the eyes and out of reach of children.
  • Don't dilute with plain water. Adding water can overload the preservative and encourage spoilage.
  • Watch for changes. Discard if the serum smells off, changes colour or separates.

Buying and storage

Azlok sells this base in 100 Gm, 500 Gm, 1 KG, 5 KG, 10 KG and 25 KG packs, so you can trial a small quantity before scaling up for a small business. It is made in India and comes with COA and MSDS documentation on request, which is useful if you are formulating for sale.

Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and tightly closed. Used sensibly, the base carries a 12-month shelf life; your finished serum's life depends on how cleanly you make it and what you add.

FAQ

Do I need to add a preservative?

The base already includes phenoxyethanol and sodium benzoate. If you only add oils and fragrance and keep everything clean, you usually don't need more. If you add water-based ingredients, consider boosting preservation and shortening shelf life.

Can I use it as-is without adding anything?

Yes. It is ready to use and can be applied directly as a light smoothing serum. Additions are optional and let you personalise scent and benefits.

Is it suitable for all hair types?

The base is lightweight and transparent, so it works across most hair types. Fine hair benefits from a small amount; thick or curly hair can take a little more.

Is it alcohol-free and fragrance-free?

Yes. It contains no alcohol and no added fragrance, so you control the scent yourself.

How much fragrance or oil can I add?

Keep total additions modest — often under 3–5% by weight — and add gradually while stirring. Too much oil can cause cloudiness or separation.
