Red Wine Melt and Pour Soap Base: A Maker's Guide to Rich, Handmade Bars

Red Wine melt and pour soap base is a ready-to-use, glycerin-style soap block infused with red wine extract that lets you make premium handmade bars without handling lye. You simply cut, melt, add fragrance or colour if you like, pour into moulds and let it set. It is sulphate-free, paraben-free, SLS & SLES free, alcohol-free and 100% vegetarian, which makes it a friendly starting point for both beginners and small soap businesses.

What is red wine soap base and who is it for

A melt and pour base is soap that has already been saponified for you. The hard, safe-to-handle work is done, so you focus on the creative part. Azlok's Red Wine base carries a natural red-wine colour and a rich, indulgent look that suits gift bars, wedding favours and boutique-style products. It is odourless on its own, so you decide the scent.

Key specifications worth knowing before you start:

  • Melting point: around 135°F (about 57°C)
  • TFM: above 40%
  • pH: 9.7
  • Solubility: soluble in alcohols and oils
  • Preservative-free and with a shelf life of about 2 years
  • Application: face, hair and body

How to use the soap base step by step

  1. Cut: Slice the base into small, even cubes so it melts uniformly.
  2. Melt: Use a double boiler on low heat, or microwave in short 20-30 second bursts, stirring between each. Do not let it boil.
  3. Add extras: Once fully melted, stir in your skin-safe fragrance oil or essential oil, and a little cosmetic colour if you want a deeper shade. A common starting point is about 1-3% fragrance by weight.
  4. Reduce bubbles: Spritz the surface with a little isopropyl alcohol to pop air bubbles.
  5. Pour: Fill silicone moulds and spritz again on top.
  6. Set: Let the bars cool and harden fully, usually a few hours, before unmoulding.

Creative ideas and add-ins

  • Swirl with a plain white or clear base for a two-tone marbled look.
  • Add a pinch of exfoliant such as fine oatmeal or poppy seeds for texture.
  • Blend in a few drops of a carrier oil like sweet almond or jojoba for extra slip.
  • Pair with berry, floral or musk fragrance oils to complement the wine tone.

Because the base is soluble in oils and alcohols, your fragrance oils and colours mix in smoothly. Go slowly with additions, as too much oil can make bars soft or reduce lather.

Tips and safety notes

  • Melt gently. Overheating can scorch the base and dull its colour.
  • Work in a ventilated space, especially when using fragrance oils.
  • Use only cosmetic-grade colours and skin-safe fragrances at recommended rates.
  • The base is preservative-free, so avoid adding fresh ingredients like fruit, milk or aloe gel that can spoil. Stick to dry or oil-based add-ins.
  • This is a bathing soap for external use. Keep it away from the eyes, do not ingest it, and store out of reach of children.
  • If you have sensitive skin, do a small patch test with your finished bar before regular use.

Buying and storage

Azlok offers the Red Wine melt and pour soap base starting at ₹249 for a 500 gm pack, with larger options of 1 KG, 5 KG, 10 KG, 20 KG and 25 KG for makers who sell or produce in bulk. The larger packs work out more economical if you make soap regularly.

To store, keep the base tightly wrapped in cling film or a sealed bag to stop it drawing moisture from the air, which can cause sweating. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Kept well, it holds up for around two years.

FAQ

Do I need to add lye to this soap base?

No. The base is already saponified, so there is no lye handling. You only melt, customise and pour.

Can I use the finished soap on my face and hair?

The base is listed for use on face, hair and body. As with any new product, patch-test first and avoid the eye area, since the pH is around 9.7.

How much fragrance can I add?

A typical range is about 1-3% of the melted weight, using skin-safe fragrance or essential oils. Add after melting and stir gently to avoid bubbles.

Why is my soap sweating with tiny droplets?

Glycerin-rich bases attract moisture from humid air. Wrap bars tightly once set and store them in a cool, dry spot to prevent this.

Is the base vegetarian and free from harsh ingredients?

Yes. It is 100% vegetarian and made sulphate-free, SLS & SLES free, paraben-free and alcohol-free, with no added detergent.
