Azlok's Green Apple Melt & Pour Soap Base is a ready-to-melt SLS- and paraben-free base infused with green apple powder that you simply cut, melt, pour into moulds and let set into finished bars. It is beginner-friendly, needs no lye handling, and works for face, body and hair-friendly soaps across all skin types.
What is a melt and pour soap base?
A melt and pour base is soap that has already been made and saponified for you. You warm it until it becomes liquid, add any colour or fragrance you like, and pour it into moulds. Within an hour or two you have a usable bar. There is no caustic soda to weigh, no curing period of several weeks, and very little mess. That makes it a sensible starting point for hobbyists, gifting projects and small home businesses.
This particular base carries a light-green to dark-green colour and the natural goodness of green apple powder (around 5% in the formula), along with glycerin for moisture. It is sulfate-free, paraben-free, alcohol-free and preservative-free, and is marked 100% vegetarian.
Uses and project ideas
- Everyday bathing bars for face, body and hair-friendly cleansing.
- Fruity themed soaps — apple-shaped moulds, layered green-and-white bars, or embeds.
- Gifting and festive hampers where a fresh fruity look works well.
- Small-batch selling at markets and online stores, thanks to the larger 5 KG to 25 KG packs.
- Guest soaps in small silicone moulds for bathrooms and stays.
How to use it, step by step
- Cut the base into small, even cubes so it melts uniformly.
- Melt gently using a double boiler or short bursts in a microwave. The melting point is around 135°F (about 57°C), so it liquefies quickly. Avoid boiling it.
- Add extras once melted — a few drops of skin-safe fragrance or essential oil, cosmetic colour, or gentle exfoliants. The base itself is odourless, so you control the final scent.
- Pour into your mould. Spritz the surface with a little rubbing alcohol to pop any bubbles.
- Set for 1 to 2 hours until firm, then unmould. Larger bars may need a little longer.
For layered soaps, let the first layer form a skin before pouring the next, and mist between layers so they bond.
Tips and safety notes
- Work in a well-ventilated space and keep hot base away from children and pets.
- The molten soap is hot — handle the container with care and stir slowly to avoid splashes.
- Do not overheat. High heat can dull the colour and cause the base to sweat once set.
- Add fragrance and colour off the heat, following the supplier's recommended usage rate. A light hand usually gives the cleanest result.
- This base has a pH of around 8.0–9.0, typical for soap. If you have sensitive skin, patch-test your finished bar before regular use.
- Melt and pour soap can develop surface beads (glycerin dew) in humid weather. Wrap finished bars in cling film or shrink wrap to keep them looking fresh.
- This is a cosmetic soap-making product. It is for external use only — do not eat it.
Buying and storage
Azlok offers the Green Apple base in a wide range of packs — 500 Gm and 1 KG for trials and gifting, and 5 KG up to 25 KG for regular makers and small brands. Pricing starts at ₹209, so buying the size that matches your batch plans keeps things economical. The product is made in India with a stated shelf life of about 2 years.
Store the base in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the pack sealed to stop it drawing in moisture, since melt and pour soap is naturally humidity-sensitive. Once you have cut a block, reseal the remainder tightly.
FAQ
Do I need to add fragrance to this soap base?
Not necessarily. The base is described as odourless, so you can leave it plain or add a green apple or other skin-safe fragrance to suit your project.
How long does the soap take to set?
Most bars firm up in about 1 to 2 hours at room temperature. Larger or thicker moulds may take a little longer before they are ready to unmould.
Can I re-melt leftover soap?
Yes. Trimmings and unused base can be cut up and melted again. Reheat gently and avoid boiling to protect the colour.
Is this base suitable for sensitive skin?
It is formulated to be SLS-, sulfate- and paraben-free and is marketed for all skin types. As with any new soap, do a small patch test first if your skin is easily irritated.
Why does my finished bar sometimes get wet on the surface?
That is glycerin dew, caused by the base absorbing moisture from humid air. Wrapping each bar tightly after unmoulding prevents it.
