Transparent Soap Making Kit: A Beginner's Guide to Clear, Homemade Bars

The Azlok Transparent Soap Making Kit lets you make clear, moisturising soap bars at home using a simple melt-and-pour method, with no lye handling and no complicated equipment. Everything you need to make your first batch is in one box, which makes it a good starting point if you have never made soap before.

What's inside the kit

This beginner-friendly kit is priced at ₹999 and packs the essentials for a small batch:

  • Transparent soap base — 200 g (melt-and-pour glycerine-style base)
  • Orange essential oil — 15 ml
  • Geranium essential oil — 15 ml
  • Lavender fragrance oil — 15 ml
  • Lemon fragrance oil — 15 ml
  • Castor oil — 15 ml
  • Olive oil — 15 ml
  • Pigment colour — 1 box
  • Spatula, beaker and a pair of hand gloves
  • 4-in-1 soap mould — 1 unit (colour may vary)

It is available in Pack of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50, so you can scale up if you plan to make soap regularly or as gifts.

Why choose transparent soap

Transparent soap has a clean, glass-like look that many people find appealing. Because it is a melt-and-pour base, you skip the chemistry of making soap from scratch (saponification with lye) and instead melt a ready base, add colour and fragrance, and pour. The clarity also means embeds like dried flowers or small toys show through beautifully. Adding a little castor oil and olive oil helps the bars feel more conditioning on the skin.

How to make your first batch

  1. Put on the hand gloves and work on a clean, dry surface.
  2. Chop the transparent soap base into small, even cubes so it melts smoothly.
  3. Melt the cubes gently — use a microwave in short 20–30 second bursts, or a double boiler. Do not let it boil.
  4. Once fully melted, stir in a few drops of castor oil and olive oil for extra moisturisation.
  5. Add a small amount of pigment colour and mix until even. Start light — you can always add more.
  6. Add your chosen scent. Use the essential oils (orange, geranium) or fragrance oils (lavender, lemon), a few drops at a time, and stir.
  7. Pour the mixture into the 4-in-1 mould using the beaker for control.
  8. Spritz the top with a little rubbing alcohol if you have it, to reduce surface bubbles (optional).
  9. Let it set at room temperature for a few hours until firm, then unmould gently.

Tips for better bars

  • Melt in stages. Overheating can cloud the base or scorch it.
  • Add fragrance when the base has cooled slightly, so the scent does not burn off.
  • Go easy on colour and oils — too much added oil can make a soft bar that sweats.
  • Mix orange and geranium, or lavender and lemon, for layered scents.
  • Work in small batches while you learn, then scale up with a larger pack.

Safety notes

Melted soap base is hot — handle the beaker carefully and keep children and pets away while you work. Essential and fragrance oils are for external use only; do not swallow them, and avoid contact with eyes. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on your inner arm with the finished soap before regular use. Work in a well-ventilated spot, and store all oils and the base out of the reach of children.

Buying and storage

Store the soap base and oils in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, tightly closed. Finished bars last longer if you wrap them in cling film or store them in an airtight container, since glycerine-based soap attracts moisture from the air. If you enjoy the process, the larger packs from Azlok work out convenient for gifting sets or a small home business.

FAQ

Do I need lye to use this kit?

No. This is a melt-and-pour transparent base, so the saponification is already done. You only melt, colour, scent and pour — no lye handling required.

How many soap bars can I make from 200 g?

It depends on your mould cavity size, but 200 g of base is enough for a small first batch of a few bars. For larger quantities, choose a bigger pack.

What is the difference between the essential oils and fragrance oils in the kit?

The orange and geranium are essential oils, distilled from plants. The lavender and lemon are fragrance oils, which are formulated scents. Both are used the same way in soap — added a few drops at a time for aroma.

Is this kit suitable for children to use?

Soap making involves hot melted base, so it should be done by adults or with close adult supervision. Children can help with picking colours and scents.

Can I add dried flowers or herbs to the soap?

Yes. Transparent soap shows embeds nicely. Add small, dry botanicals just before pouring, and keep them minimal so the bar stays clear and firm.
